See the pressure before it shows.

Two fee-earners can carry the same number of files and be in completely different positions. Workload puts open work, dates and recorded effort side by side, so a promise to a client is made with the firm’s real capacity in view.

What it does

One honest picture of the week

Every fee-earner on one screen

Open matters, live tasks and approaching dates together, so overload shows up as a pattern rather than as one person quietly falling behind.

Cover planned, not improvised

Leave and absences sit next to the work they affect, so cover is arranged before a client notices rather than after.

Unbilled effort in the same view

Recorded but unbilled hours appear beside the workload, which is usually where the real pressure is hiding.

What it means for you

What changes at the Monday meeting

  • Dates are promised against capacity. You can see who genuinely has room before agreeing to a completion date or a hearing timetable.
  • Overload is a decision, not a discovery. Work is moved between fee-earners while there is still time to move it, rather than after a deadline is missed.
  • Leave stops being a surprise. The effect of an absence on live matters is visible when the request is made.
  • Training needs show up early. Someone consistently carrying work above their level is visible before it becomes a retention problem.

This view reads the work the firm has recorded. Time that is never entered, or tasks that live in someone’s notebook, will not appear — which is the honest limit of any workload view.

Not a timesheet. Workload is about where the work sits, not about watching people. The figures come from matter and task records the firm already keeps, and are visible to those who can already see the work.
In practice

How a firm uses it

Monday morning

The partner opens workload before the week’s commitments are confirmed. Two fee-earners are carrying three live hearings each; a third has capacity.

Rebalance

Two matters are reassigned with their tasks and dates. The client is told the same day, not three weeks later.

Leave request

A request comes in for the end of the month. The matters it touches are listed, and cover is agreed in the same conversation.

Month end

The picture is compared with recorded effort — and with what was billed — so next month’s allocation starts from evidence.

One email a month, for people who run firms.

How other firms handle the parts nobody enjoys — trust reconciliation, chasing debt, keeping procedure written down. No product announcements unless something genuinely changes for you.
